Actor and comedian Adam Sandler turned 60 years old on Wednesday, September 9, as Netflix prepares production on his upcoming comedy sequel Grown Ups 3.
The third installment in the popular comedy franchise was announced by Netflix last month, though the global streaming service has not yet set an official release date for the project.
In the Grown Ups film series, Sandler stars as Lenny, a husband and father who reconnects with his childhood friends during a summer vacation.
Sandler will be joined in the new feature film by returning veteran co-stars Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. The ensemble cast members originally rose to prominence as performers on the American sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live before reuniting for various Hollywood feature films.
Director and franchise history
Director Kyle Newacheck has been selected to direct Grown Ups 3. Newacheck previously directed Sandler in the golf comedy sequel Happy Gilmore 2, which was released in 2025.
Newacheck is an American television and film director known for co-creating the Comedy Central series Workaholics and directing comedy features for major streaming platforms.
The original Grown Ups movie premiered in 2010 and became a major box office success worldwide. That commercial success led to a sequel, Grown Ups 2, which was released in theaters three years later in 2013.
The franchise is produced under Happy Madison Productions, the film and television production company founded by Sandler in 1999 that has produced dozens of comedic feature films.
Career in comedy and drama
Sandler celebrates his 60th birthday following a long career in cinema and television as an actor, comedian, writer, and director. He established himself as one of Hollywood's biggest comedy stars both in front of and behind the camera.
Throughout his decades in entertainment, Sandler has starred in hit comedies including Big Daddy, 50 First Dates, and Click.
In addition to his work in comedy, Sandler has built a filmography of critically acclaimed dramatic roles that have earned praise from reviewers and drawn tears from moviegoers.
Headquartered in Los Gatos, California, streaming service Netflix has maintained a long-running creative partnership with Sandler, releasing several of his exclusive feature films and stand-up specials to global audiences.
