Pixar has revealed a new short film called Loving Dory, marking the franchise’s first project since Finding Dory arrived in 2016. Ellen DeGeneres will return to voice Dory in the film.
In the new story, Dory accidentally encounters a plastic bag that has ended up in the ocean. Mistaking it for a jellyfish, the blue tang develops an unusual bond with the object, leading to an adventure that mixes humor with a clear message about marine pollution. As the situation grows more complicated, Nemo, Mr. Ray, and their classmates come to help, while a young diver plays a key role in the outcome.
The short will be directed by Lou Hamou-Lhadj, a veteran Pixar animator who previously worked on WALL-E and Incredibles 2, and also directed an episode of the series Win or Lose.
Pixar has not announced a release date or confirmed whether Loving Dory will debut on Disney+. One possibility is that it accompanies Gatto, the studio’s next original feature, which is scheduled for March 2027.
The announcement has also renewed speculation about the franchise’s future. Finding Nemo and Finding Dory together earned nearly two billion dollars at the box office, making them among Pixar’s most successful productions.
