From documentary filmmaker Chris Smith (American Movie) comes an endearingly irreverent portrait of the life, career and final days of pioneering filmmaker Robert Downey Sr., whose rebellious spirit permeated decades of counter-culture cinema. The film, which took three years to shoot, is a true tribute to Robert Downey Sr.’s non-linear approach. and also records the decision to embark on his latest film project, which coincided with his final days. Smith’s portrait of a family and an artist is as surreal as it is a sentimental reflection on life, an ode to the unbridled making of art that gradually releases its own manual.
