DS Automobiles has launched its latest creation, the new DS 3. The DS 3 Crossback, a benchmark in the segment in terms of design, technology and electrification, will be the new DS 3. Featuring a new, more efficient and dynamic front end, a restructured and attractive offer, the arrival of new technologies and a new set of electric motor and battery for your 100% electric versionThe new DS 3 sets itself apart from the competition in a unique way.
After presenting the electrified concept Wild Rubis at the Shanghai show in 2013, the Colors, Materials and Finishes teams worked on the create an exclusive red color for DS Automobiles. In China and in its later appearances in Europe, the color of Wild Rubis, consisting of 11 successive layers applied twice and without colored varnish, had unanimously seduced. Since then, more than 40 different versions have been worked on to achieve the unprecedented Diva Red of the New DS 3. This color, thanks to an exceptional three-layer treatment with a ground color, a semi-transparent layer and a protective varnish, uses the most recent technologies of grinding pigments to achieve greater saturation to emphasize the intensity of red and accentuate the flop effect (variation of color and brightness depending on viewing angle).
“We were inspired by jewelery and gemology. Authentic jewels are distinguished by their rarity and their high beauty. We studied the color quality of the ruby with the aim of developing the voluptuousness of a red reminiscent of images of the caramel apples and cherries Our goal was to find a color with character, deep and saturated, to which we could add the image of sequins to evoke an intense emotion,” explains Lisa Grangeon-CoudertDesigner of colors and materials.
The desire to present haute couture savoir-faire in concept cars and then use new technologies to adapt them to commercialization is one of the aspects included in DS Automobiles’ design approach. This new example completes other achievements of the brand, such as, for example, the stitch-pearl stitching of Clous guilloché from Paris.
The new DS 3 shows its boldness with a unique silhouette. The design creates a balance between lines and volumes. The most visible changes are concentrated at the front, giving it new dynamism and a sense of robustness while retaining all its elegance.
Stylistic codes from the rest of the DS Automobiles range have been applied to the new model, which features a redesigned, larger grille, highlighted with diamond-shaped elements in gloss black or chrome finish, depending on the version. Signature DS WINGS is tuned to subtly connect the grille and headlights.
New LED headlights – standard across the range – have a more dynamic design and give the new DS 3 a deeper look with three distinctive modules emphasized by satin chrome surrounds. DS MATRIX LED VISION, with intelligent and automatic management of the high-beam headlamps for maximum comfort and safety, is offered as an option. The new daytime running lights feature two rows of LEDs arranged vertically on either side of the front to create a distinctive, enlarged signature, in keeping with the latest DS Automobiles design codes.
Attention to detail has also been applied to the decals on the grille and hood with the addition of a ‘Clous de Paris’ motif and variations in color depending on the version.
The back is elegant; the taillights and tailgate are discreetly accentuated by a black lacquered bead on which the signature ‘DS AUTOMOBILES’ appears using an unprecedented technology: the polished stainless steel letters are individually cut and embedded in the trim.
The new DS 3 is available in 7 matte, metallic and pearlescent body colors, two of which are completely new: Diva Red, a three-layer color exclusive to the New DS 3, and Laquered Grey. Crystal Pearl, Platinum Grey, Artense Grey, Pearl Black and Banquise White complete the offer with the option of two-tone combinations with two roof colours: Pearl Black or the new Carat Grey.
The new DS 3 E-TENSE gets a completely new electric motor (made in Trémery-Metz), a reducer (made in Valenciennes) and a new battery (made in Poissy) to increase both power and range. The new Hybrid Synchronous Electric Machine (HSM) uses the know-how gained in Formula E to provide high efficiency. It has an output of 115 kW (156 hp) and a torque of 260 Nm at a voltage of 400 volts. The new 54 kWh battery (50.8 kWh useful) benefits from thermal regulation by liquid circulation and a heat pump that allow for fast charging, greater autonomy and longer service life. The built-in charger can charge standard with 100 kW in direct current (0 to 80% in 25 minutes) and 11 kW in alternating current (0 to 100% in 5 hours).
The new DS 3 E-TENSE, unique in its segment, achieves up to 402 kilometers of autonomy under the WLTP mixed cycle (12.6 kWh / 100 km) and more than 500 km in urban conditions thanks to the efficiency of the electric machine, its power to recover energy, to the additional equipment such as the heat pump, thermal preconditioning or the new LED headlights, as well as an aerodynamic optimization of the front and wheels and a 10 mm reduction in ground clearance to the ground in the versions shod with 17 and 18 inch Tall & Narrow wheels. The set of all these technologies makes it possible to achieve an improvement of up to 7.6% in the value of SCx.
The New DS 3 is also offered with two petrol engines: PureTech 100 with a six-speed manual transmission and PureTech 130 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A BlueHDi 130 diesel engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox is also included in the catalog. These three engines meet the latest anti-pollution regulations.
The new DS 3 takes inspiration from French luxury savoir-faire to create an exclusive atmosphere. The materials have been selected with the intention of presenting a finish characterized by excellence, innovation and resistance. The leather, especially the nappa leather construction with an Art Leather satin finish, the Alcantara, details such as the pearl stitch seams or the Clous de Paris guilloché treatment confirm the uniqueness of the interior of the DS Automobiles. This attention to detail, deeply rooted in the brand’s DNA, can be found on board the new DS 3 and is a key differentiator.
The driving position evolves with the adoption of a new steering wheel that regroups the controls for the driving aids and the buttons for the information and entertainment equipment and is accompanied by paddle shifters for shifting in the automatic gearboxes. A new 10.3-inch high-definition central display is offered as standard with specific integration of the new DS IRIS SYSTEM infotainment system.
The seats of the new DS 3 have a design and technology at the service of beauty and well-being. Highly enveloping, they are made with an innovative high-density foam to achieve the best level of comfort on the market. The front seats can be adjusted with heating, massage (lumbar) and electrical adjustment (length, height, tilt and lumbar adjustment).
