Who is Fury?

Fury: A girl who has bet everything on her passion.

How can you describe yourself in three adjectives?

Fury: Cheerful, energetic and ambitious.

I read that you started breakdancing at age 12, what was that start that made you throw yourself on the dance floor?

Fury: Well, I started by chance, I come from a small town on the outskirts of Barcelona, at that time the information coming in about hip-hop culture (and dance in general) was zero. As a result of the Fama program they opened a dance school, so one day a friend of mine wanted to try a jazz class (a boy from Fama came to do a master class) and I accompanied her, obviously I didn’t get into jazz as I didn’t the least called but at the same time At that time they also did hip hop classes and you could try it so I decided to join. I loved that class. I was so impressed that I decided to enroll. At the time, it was only freestyle (hip-hop) and choreography classes. One day the teacher who taught us couldn’t come and Bboy Artis came in and taught us a break class. I fell in love with the break, which made me start asking and Artis sending me videos and others. One day we went to a championship that had different modalities, including breaking, and when I saw a guy doing headspin, I said, this, this is what I want to do. And I’ve been addicted to breaking ever since.

You have been the winner of the Red Bull BC ONE Cypher Spain 2022, did you expect that?

Fury: Yes and no. Yes, because in my head it could not be otherwise, I had been preparing for it for weeks and in my head there was no doubt that it could be done differently, I visualized it so often that reality could not do otherwise. And not at the same time because I knew my rivals had the same desire as me and Law is always a box full of surprises for me, I couldn’t take anything for granted for her.

For the Marie Claire audience that doesn’t understand break dancing or Red Bull competitions, how can you explain it to us very succinctly?

Fury: Breaking is a dance/art of New York Street origin that has evolved horribly over time to the point where a brand as valued and big as Red Bull decided to support it. Red Bull has always been a target for many of us as it is one of the most important events we have on the scene.

How do you define your way of dancing?

My way of dancing is always determined by music, I consider myself quite dependent on music and I think I am original with what I do, I always look for my “signatures”, something they know is mine.

In 2024, breakdance will be a sporting discipline at the Olympic Games in France. Will we see you there? What do you think it means that break dance is an Olympic sport?

Fury: Yes, you will see me there! I’m going to prepare as much as possible. I think it is something very positive, for many reasons, visibility, respect for our dance, appreciation… We are starting to be heard and taken seriously, I believe that the break has always had a bad reputation because of its origin and that many people carry on with that stigma of guys dancing on cardboard and a direct association with ‘vandalism’ when it isn’t. Both me and my colleagues who now train at the CAR in Madrid have spent many hours training and living a life fully focused on this, which means we need to eat and have very healthy habits to perform at our best.

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone who wants to start?

Fury: That you have a lot of patience, are not in a hurry and listen to your body a lot.

There are more and more women in this sector, how was your beginning? And what do you think is missing to achieve equality?

Fury: The truth is that when I started, in Barcelona, there were already very strong women dancing and winning international competitions, of course not like now, there are many more today, but in my daily life there were already women who gave me strength gifts and served as motivation to follow. Yes, I think it’s still a long way off, but we’re on our way!

Can you recommend to us women in break dance that we should fix them to pursue their careers?

Fury: On a national level, my biggest inspiration has always been MoviefOne. I recommend everyone to do a little research on her as she really took the Spanish scene to an incredible level! Internationally I could name AT, Jeskilz, Asia One, Nadia, Beta… and many more.

In Marie Claire we talk about fashion and style, how do you choose the clothes you will wear during the fights? Is there a piece of clothing that is basic?

Fury: The truth is that I try to make it as comfortable as possible and most importantly it is “functional” for my movements.

What plans do you have for 2022 and 2023?

Fury: I have a number of trips planned, all to compete, but my plan is primarily to keep training to the fullest and develop my break.
