A New Jersey couple’s wedding was devastated by a fire at their wedding venue less than an hour before their wedding and their florists burst into tears.
Yomaris Coromina of flower and event design firm Diva Blooms documented the fire at The Rockleigh in Bergan County in a video she shared on Instagram on Thursday.
“Today was just the most perfect day. We had a beautiful setup in The Rockleigh, New Jersey, and then I started walking towards the ceremony hall to put out the petals, and I started smelling the smoke,” he explained. “Look, the room’s on fire and they’re canceling the wedding.”

Coromina turned on the camera to show off the beautiful flower arrangements she and her team had been working on all day.
“This is the great work we do,” he said, adding, “I have all my inventory here. It smells like pure smoke. It smells awful, as if all the smoke is getting in. There are fire trucks and ambulance personnel everywhere. There are police officers.’
She began to cry as she said she had been awake since 4am and that her team had “worked tirelessly for this event”.
“I started walking into the ceremonial hall to remove the leaves and began to smell the smoke,” Coromina explained. “Look, the room is on fire and they’re canceling the wedding”
NBC New York reported that the fire in The Rockleigh broke out just before 6 pm.
According to Northvale police, the fire started in a cauldron and quickly spread to the second floor, but everyone managed to get out of the building safely.
Guests roamed the parking lot as firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
“I feel sorry for the bride,” he said. “It’s just getting worse. I just want to cry. It’s so bad. It’s like there’s smoke all over the place.”
“I didn’t even visit the bride, but I’m sure she was devastated,” he said.
Coromina said she heard “a lot of glass breaking” as firefighters put out the fire.
“These are the things you see in the movies. You can’t see it in real life,” he said. “My best event. We didn’t even get the photos. I’m so angry.
He admitted to trying to escape and retrieve the main pieces he had rented for the event, but police officers stopped him.
On Coromina’s Instagram Stories, she posted pictures of the bridal party members posing for beautiful decor and photos before the fire broke out.
The tables were set with beautiful gilded centerpieces with bouquets of white and pink flowers.
Coromina began to cry, saying that she had been up since 4am and that her team had “worked tirelessly on this event.”
“This is great work we do,” he said, and stated that he never took any pictures.
“Something I never imagined happened today… On a beautiful wedding day, the place we set up caught fire… I am very sorry for my client,” he said.
“I can’t imagine what they went through. Our team worked hard on this event to make sure it was perfect for them. I was so nervous with everything that happened that it felt like an eternity. Thankfully no one was injured and the fire occurred within 30 minutes. It was gone. [minutes] otherwise it would have been much worse.’

In a later video, Coromina announced the resumption of the ceremony after moving the event outside, but eventually the unnamed couple decided to postpone their wedding.
She posted on her Instagram Stories pictures of the bridal party members posing for the beautiful decor and photo before the fire broke out.
“And then this happens,” he wrote about the fire.
Coromina and her team worked tirelessly to move the parade ground, and their video shows the staff picking flower petals from the ground.
They scattered the leaves along the corridor surrounded by the two central parts.
Everything was set and ready to go when they found out that the ceremony had been postponed by the couple.
In the last post of the evening, he said that he was praying for the couple and their loved ones.
He put on a mask and rushed to reception to get all the centerpieces in the smoke-filled room.
“Those few seconds were not good for my lungs!” said.
As guests wandered through the parking lot, they moved their flower arrangements to another outdoor space. Everything was set and ready to go when they found out that the ceremony had been postponed by the couple.
“My bride and her husband pray for their family and friends flying in/out to experience this beautiful union,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories.
“I’m glad no one was injured in today’s fire, but I’m sorry that today didn’t go as planned.”
