Mom shares photo of ‘weird’ bathroom item in new family home

A mother of two in Australia has baffled hundreds online after she posted a photo of a “strange” find in her bathroom.

Gold Coast’s Mina Alcantara sought help from others on Facebook because she desperately wanted to know that the weird ceramic platform was protruding from the shower wall.

“We moved recently and I don’t know what happened in the shower. Both showers have it, shampoo etc. There is an appropriately sized recess. – Some ideas?!’ Wrote.

“It’s going down. Not good for a bar of soap.”

Nearly 400 people liked the post, and many are guessing what the strange object might be.

“It looks like a dislodged soap dish,” wrote one person.

Another asked: “Is this soap dish turned upside down?”

A third said, “My husband asked me if our predecessors (in the ’70s) used this to hold up one leg while showering, and now I can’t get that image out of my head.”

Finally, many have made a statement, saying that the awkward “shelf” in front of the shower is actually a stool used to shave legs more easily.

This type of design was especially popular in the 1990s.

“Absolutely a stool,” one wrote.

“I was too scared to put my foot down to shave, I would probably have ripped off the tile,” said another.

Others seemed disappointed that their showers were not made with a one-of-a-kind product.

“I’ve wanted one all my life,” one woman said.

Some warned Mina of the “dangers” of using the footrest.

Just don’t put too much weight on it! When they grow up they leave the wall !!!’ said one person.

“Mine was just set up to protect my shins and cover me with bruises,” another added.

Mina told Yahoo News that after she was hospitalized for using her footrest, she urged two other people to lift her or avoid it.
