An Australian dietitian shared how he slowly but effectively burned fat after his daughter Mia was born, and why he waited six months to share “progress photos” with fans.
Leanne Ward of Brisbane said the past six months have been “an grueling, incredible and steep learning curve” and she has received a lot of requests for bodybuilding during her postpartum period.
“I didn’t actually do that because even though I’m a female-focused fat loss dietitian, I didn’t want to obsess over postpartum fat loss or have their journeys compared to mine,” she wrote.

Six months off versus six months off: An Australian dietitian shared how she slowly but effectively burned fat after giving birth and why she waited six months to share any “progress photos” with her fans.

Leanne Ward of Brisbane said the last six months have been “an grueling, surprising and steep learning curve” and she has received a lot of requests for bodybuilding during her postpartum period.
“I gained a lot more weight during my pregnancy than I ‘wanted’ (+19kg at 40 weeks despite finally being liquid), although my health is still good.”
Despite this, Leanne managed to lose 9.1 kg in the first week after giving birth.
“I have two more kilos to get back to my pre-baby weight but I don’t care. I follow my LEAN Gut Mind Method coaching plan for my clients and remind myself that slow and steady wins the race.

FAST Fat Lose: Leanne shares five easy morning habits
1. Start with gratitude
The first thing Leanne tells you to do is practice gratitude first thing in the morning.
“If you train your brain to focus on positive things, it’s much easier to do more positive things,” Leanne said.
2. Get some exercise
“Focus on getting out into the fresh air and getting some vitamin D,” Leanne said.
Whether it’s a 20-minute walk or an hour’s walk, the important thing is to gently move your body in the fresh air.
Leanne aims to take 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, depending on how much exercise she gets that day.

3. For water
While many health professionals recommend drinking lemon juice, apple cider vinegar or chlorophyll early in the morning, Leanne said all you really need is plain old H20.
4. Get protein
When it comes time to eat your first meal of the day, Leanne said the most important thing is to get some protein.
“Focus on protein and fiber in your first meal so you feel full and satisfied,” she said.
5. Eat when you’re hungry
Finally, while you may think it’s important to eat as soon as you wake up, it’s actually a better idea to pay attention to hunger cues, Leanne said.
“Eat when you’re hungry, not because of the clock,” he said.
To see progress, Leanne focused on the basics and walks every day and eats salad and vegetables with every meal.
She also keeps track of her onsite snacks, eats soul food regularly but in small quantities, practices mindful eating, and makes sure she takes care of herself every day so that she doesn’t “eat on her emotions.”
He always makes sure you drink water regularly so you don’t overeat.

“I’m very proud of my progress, how my clothes fit, and focusing on fat loss over the past six months, but now I’m ready to build,” Leanne said.
“Losing an average of 1.5 pounds a month may seem like slow progress to many, but to me it’s realistic, achievable and most importantly sustainable,” he said.
“It also meant that I wasn’t obsessed with food or exercise, and over time I started doing a few simple things on my own every day.
“I’m very proud of my progress, the way my clothes fit and my focus on burning fat over the past six months, but now I’m ready to build.”
“For the next six months, I plan to go back to normal strength training and develop my weak muscles that almost let me down.”
