An Australian woman living in the United States described how high-sugar foods taste so much that she had to sweeten her meals when she got home.
Lili Currie, who lives in Los Angeles, during a visit to Australia, explained in a viral TikTok video how to add sugar to her food because she is so used to sweet American products.
The actress and writer said she bought a well-known breakfast cereal she ate at a bodega at home on a previous New York trip, but said she “nearly vomited” because it was so much sweeter.

Lili Currie (pictured), an Australian living in the United States, shared how she had to add sugar to her food when she got home because she was so used to the high sugar content in America.
“I texted my mom to check out the pantry, sending me a picture of the box I usually eat in: same brand, same packaging, same size, same everything,” the clip said.
“Double the sugar and then 30 more ingredients I can’t pronounce that aren’t at home.”
Lili said she got so used to the high sugar content of her favorite Australian breakfast cereal in the US that she had to sweeten it when she got home.
“After this trip, I came home and had to add sugar and it still wasn’t sweet enough,” she said.
The expatriate went on to say that he was shocked at how expensive fresh produce is in the US compared to Australia, and recalled that he once tried to look for cough tablets that did not contain a restricted and restricted ingredient in many countries.
“The last time I got sick, I went to six different pharmacies to find cough lollipops free of red dye 40 that are illegal in Australia, illegal in the UK, illegal all over Europe,” he said.
“I couldn’t find one for patients, it’s patients’ medicine”.

The expatriate said he was shocked by how expensive fresh produce was in the US, and recalled trying to find cough tablets where no ingredients were banned in many countries.
Lili’s video quickly garnered over 1.9 million views and hundreds of comments from viewers around the world.
“There is sugar in EVERYTHING, especially corn syrup. Where there are no such things as bread?” wrote one follower.
“Other countries ban many American products because they don’t meet foreign standards. Don’t start me off with cheap fast food! ‘ a second claimed.
‘Very true. I really miss Brazilian food. For the same money as a Big Mac meal, you can buy vegetables for a month. The water in the US is also bad,” he said.
“I don’t care when was the last time you went to an Australian supermarket, but fruit and vegetables aren’t cheap, they’re very expensive,” said one Australian.
Many Americans in the comments said that traveling overseas made them realize how unhealthy American food can be.
“When I traveled to Switzerland, my eczema disappeared and I felt healthier…until I returned to the United States,” one traveler said.
“Brother, I’ve been living in Australia for six months AND YES, YOU WILL GET BACK. I was on the Gold Coast,” said another.
Third said, “I was in the Netherlands and when I came back to the United States I couldn’t swallow anything, I ate all the time and I didn’t understand why.”
