An American woman has traveled more than 4,000 miles across England to compete and WIN in the 2022 Cheese Rolling Championship.
21-year-old Abby Lampe won the women’s title by crashing in just 15 seconds off Coopers Hill, Gloucestershire.
He planned a summer vacation to Europe from his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, to coincide with the iconic dairy event.
Every year, dozens of fans gather on the grassy hill to chase the four-pound Double Gloucester wheel down a steep 200-foot hill.
The 21-year-old said he first heard of extreme sports a few years ago, 196 years ago.
Abby Lampe, 21, originally from North Carolina, won the women’s title by crashing in just 15 seconds off Coopers Hill in Gloucestershire.

The 21-year-old said he first heard about extreme sports a few years ago, 196 years ago, and decided to take part. He hoped to win but wasn’t sure if he would.
Abby said, “I heard about this cheese streaming and word of mouth on YouTube.
“It’s so dark and mundane, but really interesting.
My friends and I joked that I did as I’m already going to Europe this summer.
“I booked the tickets and made sure I was in the UK for the race. Then I started practicing.

The American student raced at Coopers Hill two weeks ago and won the championship.

An ecstatic Abby showed off her cheese after winning the race. She revealed that she was training for the fall and scanning the competition preview images before the competition, she said.
Freshly graduating from North Carolina State University with a BS in Industrial Engineering, fiercely competitive Abby spent hours practicing downhill.
He also spent endless evenings online reviewing footage of previous years’ races, examining the other cheese-loving athlete’s stance, footwork, and rolling ability.
Abby also stocked up on protective gear, replacing the swimsuits and sun hats she would wear during the hot European summer holidays with shin guards and soccer socks.
But the preparation didn’t end there: Once on British soil, Abby went red-handed to Coopers Hill and recorded the route, taking notes on her favorite route.

Winner of the wheel! Abby sent the cheese to America so she could eat it with her family when their travels were over.

Abby admitted to praying a little the night before the race. She also revealed that she is a competitive person and went to check the hill to see how steep she was before joining she.
He said: “I scanned the hill to see how steep it was and how to descend.
‘I am very competitive. I also play football, volleyball, basketball and cross country.
“I want to prepare very well for everything I do on a match basis.”
The night before the competition, Abby recovered after watching an episode of Netflix’s We Are The Champions dedicated to the sport of cheese hunting.
He said: “I went there hoping to win. I didn’t know I was going because I had no idea what the match was going to be like, but I was confident.
“I just prayed a little.
“Everything was great after the race. I remember being stopped by the rugby players after the last few shots, I looked at them and just said, ‘Did I win?
‘Then the person took out the cheese – it was almost like a dream.
“It felt like being in a movie. I didn’t know I was going to really win this and keep the cheese.
“I put it on my head and started jumping because I was so enchanted.”
Abby beat the other female competitors with an impressive time of just 15 seconds to run down the hill.
But surprisingly, he hasn’t tasted his bounty yet—he sent it back to his parents in the US to enjoy his family when he returned in a few months to start his new job as a technical consultant.
“I wanted to open it with my family – we’ve always loved growing cheese and we have a charcuterie plate and some happy hour with cheese and wine, so I thought it would be great.” Said.
And the North Carolina native even considers taking the sport home.
“While it’s nice, I don’t know where we’re going to do this,” he said.
“I feel like this is a uniquely British affair so I wouldn’t want to take it from England.”
