Speaking to TVLine, Downton Abbey executive producer Gareth Neame talked about the new movie, which will be released in September 2025. It will be a tribute to Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, played by Maggie Smith.
According to the plot, the Countess died at the end of the second part. “The fact that Dame Maggie herself was dead added to the urgency of a story we had planned long before she died. The Dowager’s loss seems even more significant now.
