Mikhail Bocharov’s short film “Monster” received a special award from the expert council of the “Bridge” film festival this year. The film’s fantastical, though wordless, plot is intuitive even to the children for whom it was originally filmed. The action takes place in a closed office. After all the employees leave, the janitor gets to work but is suddenly chased by a monster in the trash can.

A touching story of friendship with a national flavor. Six-year-old Amir and his family move from sunny Tashkent to winter Moscow. It is not easy for him to get used to a new country and culture right away because he still misses playing with his friends from Uzbekistan. In a shared apartment, Amir meets a neighbor named Vanya, who is almost his own age, but the boy’s mother opposes their friendship. Will they be able to maintain their relationship despite the adults’ national prejudices?

“VİNÖ”, direction. Vladislav Egorenkov

It is a meditative film about the contact between man and nature, and the love of man for his land and roots. The plot tells about the life of an old monk who settled in Karelia more than 20 years ago. He is almost a hundred years old, but he continues to lead an active lifestyle, absorbing information and recording his thoughts on paper. The man is the hero of these places, like the sage of the Finnish-Karelian epic Väinämöinen, who also lived in harmony with nature. The old man seems almost a semi-mystical character, but the photographs and trophies in his house tell us that there is room for great deeds and heroism in his past.
