Denny Villeneuve’s Dune is all about setting, battles, and intrigue. Moreover, this is a franchise that gives moviegoers a logical reason to believe that the director will tackle a new installment of Star Wars sooner or later. Villeneuve is in a hurry to disappoint fans of stories from a galaxy far, far away. This door is closed to him.
The truth is that the director was disappointed with the series 40 years ago. Before the third film, she was a devoted fan of this cinematic universe, but her love was killed by furry Ewok warriors from the moon of the planet Endor.
“The problem is that everything went south with Return of the Jedi in 1983. I was 15 years old, and my best friend and I even wanted to take a taxi and go to Los Angeles and talk to George Lucas. We were so angry! He made a comedy for kids,” Villeneuve said on The Town podcast.
Villeneuve also noted that the streaming service is currently producing the series. This is not a good situation for a director who believes that his works should be shown in the higher ranked cinemas.
