There is no Nolan or Tarantino in the top ten – not to mention Cameron and Spielberg.
The New York Times published a list of the 100 best films of the XXI Century – and placed “Parasites” Pon Zhong Ho in the first place. The survey was attended by more than 500 filmmakers, actors and critics, and the list itself was compiled on the basis of the results of the mood of editors and invited experts.
“Parasites,” we remember, was the first not -long -breaking film that Oscar received for the best film, as well as a Golden Palm branch in Cannes. But even taking into account the regalia of the film, the list raises questions for unexpected regulations and the absence of a number of obvious ribbons.
In the first ten, for example, there is no “La-la Land”, but “Mad Max: Road Road”, which usually appears in such lists, was only in 11th place. But many more room and ambiguous films came high from the “Mulholland-Drive” Lynch to “Dranding” Jordan Drink.
This is what the first dozen look like:
- “Parasites” (2019), Dir. Pon Jun Ho
- “Malholland-Drive” (2001), Dir. David Lynch
- “Oil” (2007), Dir. Paul Thomas Anderson
- “Love Mood” (2000), Dir. Wong Kar-Vai
- “Moonlight” (2016), Dir. Barry Jenkins
- “The old people are not a place” (2007), Dir. Brothers Cohen
- “Eternal Radiance of Pure Mind” (2004), Dir. Michelle Gondry
- “Away” (2017), Dir. Jordan Dronk
- “Directed by Ghosts” (2001), Dir. Hayao Miyazaki
- “Social Network” (2010), Dir. David Fincher
The list also contained “Oppenheimer” (65th place), the “Zone of Interests” (12), “Anatomy of the Fall” (26) and “previous lives” (86) – they have all been published in the past two years, but there are no films of 2024 at all. Van Russia in the ranking list of course nobody.
Under the curious decisions: “Kill Bill: part 1” for 61st place, “adolescence” in 23, “Tough day” (Moord memories) as the same Pon Zhong Ho – on 14. But at the same time there is no “Davis”, nor “Dunkirk”, neither on the “Ghostly”, nor the “Ghostly”.

In short, the list evokes mixed feelings. On the one hand, I am happy that IMDB did not focus here. On the other hand, it seems that the compilers tried to be “not standing” because of the effect of surprise.
A complete list of 100 films is published on the New York Times.
