Many people know firsthand the situation in the spirit of “barn burned, house burned”. That’s why in the off-season we escape not with romantic comedies with a happy ending, but with dark stories about ghouls and other evil spirits. And this is understandable – why look at people who roll like cheese in butter and do not know any worries? After all, we complain about life in order to cry with our friends, not to make fun of ourselves and to learn with them how wonderful everything is. Therefore, the best medicine against depression is dark movies.
If the world is falling apart, let everyone suffer, right? Hence our fall marathons of watching the Twilight Saga, Scandinavian detective stories, and… end-of-the-world movies. When global changes occur that we’re not prepared for, we want to curl up and get over it.
We found 10 excellent new movies about the apocalypse, where everything is so bad that every problem seems solvable after watching them.

“Finch”, dir. Miguel Sapochnik (2021)

Perhaps the most touching and tearful story about friendship between a man and a dog. And probably no one except Tom Hanks could show such tenderness to the tailed one. After the solar flare, a global catastrophe occurred: hurricanes and dust storms rage on Earth, and there is no food during the day – the few survivors are engaged in robbery and murder. Because of the radiation, you can only go outside in a spacesuit, and you have to spend most of the day in a shelter. The only person who brings joy to Finch’s free time is the Irish terrier Goodyear. His owner cannot stand the thought of what will happen to his friend when he dies, so he decides to create an android Jeff who will look after him, based on the three laws of robotics. When their shelter is destroyed, Finch and his friends set off to find a new home.
