Usually in Hollywood they don’t spend money on such large-scale flights and filming Russia in Canada or on sound stages. But today we are sharing a selection of movies that were filmed in Russia.
The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
The end of the second part of the Bourne series and Matt Damon’s famous taxi chase were filmed in Moscow. It took place on Komsomolsky Prospekt, Rozhdestvensky Boulevard, Trubnaya Square and Krylatskoye.
Anna Karenina (2012)
After principal photography wrapped in February 2012, a small crew traveled to Russia for a few days to shoot the landscapes of Levin’s home and the surrounding area. Filming took place on Kizhi Pogost, a remote island near Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia.
Golden Eye (1995)
The seventeenth James Bond film is set in St. Petersburg, where Agent 007 investigates the theft of a powerful satellite weapons system. One of the most iconic scenes from the film is the thrilling tank chase through the city centre, filmed in St. Petersburg.
Outcast (2000)
In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks’ character worked at a FedEx office near Red Square, and the actor recalled after filming that it was a great experience: It was so hot in January that year that they had to bring in snow.
Red Heat (1988)
The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Soviet police officer who tracks down Russian criminals heading to the U.S. At the time, the filmmakers still couldn’t get permission to shoot in Red Square, so they pretended to shoot an amateur video of Schwarzenegger in his police uniform.
Resident Evil: Revenge (2012)
The idea to shoot this part of the futuristic horror series in Russia was suggested by Milla Jovovich, and the film was eventually shot in the Far East, Kamchatka and Moscow. According to media reports, the shooting in Red Square lasted several hours and was closed to the public. In the film, Jovovich fights evil mutants near the Kremlin and then goes down the escalator to the metro.
Professional (2018)
Keanu Reeves’ character goes to St. Petersburg to make a deal but can’t find his partner Peter. And this episode was actually shot in the city on the Neva. Hill goes to Mirny in Siberia to look for Peter so he doesn’t die, but those scenes were already shot in Canada.
