Scientists have recreated the gaze of Tsar Ivan the Terrible using computer graphics and volunteers. The portrait of the famous ruler has been reconstructed from bones.
According to the Daily Mail, the reconstruction was carried out by anthropologist Cicero Moraes. He used the technique of anatomical deformation. First, he recruited a group of volunteers whose skulls were as similar as possible to the head of Ivan the Terrible. Using computer programs, he verified the thickness of the muscles and skin.

“The final print was the combination of all this data. After finishing, I compared my portrait with the work of the scientist Gerasimov. Although we used different approaches to creating the busts, the results were quite similar. They differ only in the lower lip and chin area,” Cicero said.
The first portrait of the Tsar was made by the Soviet scientist Ivan Gerasimov. He exhumed the remains of the monarch and created his own model based on the data obtained in 1963. It is the only engraving containing the portrait of Ivan the Terrible made during his lifetime. However, it has survived to modern times in poor quality.
