Etiquette lessons: What are the rules for communicating with the president?

We decided to dream of a meeting with the president on the eve of the presidential elections, which will take place in the Russian Federation from March 15 to 17. Moreover, this is really possible. We thought that from now on, the use of slang in daily life became a natural thing. You may well use the word “accident” when chatting with a friend. Maybe we should start with preparations for the meeting with the head of state. Punctuality is more important than ever, so this means thinking about your dress code and planning your route to the meeting point.

The specific style of clothing always depends on the host. However, in the situation described above, a classic suit will come in handy. True, they are different, so when choosing one, remember the main factors: restraint and elegance.

Hair and make-up are neat and discreet. No “war paint” for women. A coated manicure in natural shades is required. Men’s beards and mustaches are allowed provided that they are trimmed properly. However, according to psychologists’ observations, clean-shaven faces give more confidence.

Punctuality

Wherever you are – in Moscow, Pskov or Dubai, think over the route to the meeting place in advance. Consider local traffic, weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances. Being on time will show that you respect the meeting party time.

The most common forms of appeal to the head of state are:

– by first and last name (with a possible etiquette change to “respected”)

– “Mr.” with the title of the position (“lover” with a possible etiquette change)

In no case should you address your interlocutor by name casually or use a diminutive name. This is an inappropriate form of address for a person in such a high position. This way you can show your disrespect.

Gestures and facial expressions

It is not for nothing that politicians were the first to understand the importance of “body language”. As numerous studies have shown, voters intuitively choose a candidate with calm movements, so you should also avoid chaotic hand movements. And here’s something else:

– Distance when meeting with the President is not only etiquette, but also a security precaution. We do not get closer than 50 centimeters;

– Do not bend over – keep your back straight;

– If you want to show something, do not point with your finger. It is better to do this with the palm open;

– Look into your interlocutor’s eyes with confidence and determination;

– Facial expression should be calm, friendly, avoid grimaces;

– Hugs, air or regular kisses are completely unacceptable; just a short, energetic handshake.

Communication rules

– Be careful what you say. Avoid discriminatory and other offensive language that could lead to international scandal. Only respect, tolerance and goodwill.

– Do not be distracted by your mobile phone. This will show disrespect to your interlocutor. And yes, forget about social networks. I know taking a photo with the head of state will be successful, but please do it without photos.

– It is permissible to thank the interlocutors for the meeting once or twice, but not more.
