10 on-screen couples who can’t stand each other in real life

10 on-screen couples who can’t stand each other in real life

Everyone dreams of a relationship like in the movies. Beautiful characters, a whirlpool of emotions, a luxurious setting – if only everything were really like this. The actor’s talent can convince the audience of the sincerity of feelings, making them think that they really love each other. After all, actors often begin dating in life after filming. But the opposite also happens when movie couples can barely stand each other’s company. We are talking about these.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan – Fifty Shades of Gray (2015)

For many, the erotic drama Fifty Shades of Gray was a revelation. Millions of viewers watched with tension the relationship between power-hungry Christian Gray and his assistant Anastasia Steele, who discovered the world of sensual pleasures. Fans believed that only a couple truly in love could convey such passion. But there is no such thing! Insiders admitted that Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan did not get along from the first day of filming. But they skillfully concealed their hostility in interviews and on the carpet. Additionally, the producers convinced the stars to star in two more sequels.

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie – “Tourist” (2010)

What could be better than a single shot of two megastars like Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie? At first, they were both happy to act together, but by the end of filming, they were exhausted. It turned out that the players did not agree on temperament. Quiet and even melancholy Depp seemed too lethargic to the energetic Jolie and, in her opinion, not interested in the process. Also, the demanding actor did not like the fact that Depp was late for filming and was not in good physical shape. Depp stated that the constant control and tension of his partner, who wanted to dominate the field, was a burden to him. Even so, their on-screen duet won the sympathy of the audience and received three Golden Globe nominations.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams – Notebook (2004)

The characters of Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are the ideal of touching and tender love for many young people (and even more so for adults!). But behind the scenes, everything was different: The actors were swearing in front of everyone and could barely tolerate each other’s company. One day, the showdown came to a head – and on set, Gosling publicly asked the director to replace the actor because “they couldn’t do anything.” Later, John Cassavetes demanded professionalism from the actors, saying he did not care about their personal feuds. From then on things went smoothly. Gosling and McAdams put all their skills into the roles and the result impressed everyone. By the way, the relationship between them also improved – after the filming, the actors met, much to the delight of their fans. However, three years later the couple broke up.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes – Romeo + Juliet (1996)

“Violent emotions end violently.” These lines of Shakespeare can describe the relationship between Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, who suddenly became one of the most beautiful couples on the silver screen. But in reality real Shakespearean passions were kindled among the actors. Danes was annoyed by the attitude and stupidity of his partner, who made jokes at the expense of the film crew. DiCaprio also thought that the young actress was too restrained and nervous. True, both coped with their task, convincing the audience in the sincerity of their feelings. By the way, Claire later turned down the offer to star in Titanic because she didn’t like DiCaprio, and she doesn’t regret it at all.

Sharon Stone and William Baldwin – “Strip” (1993)

The erotic thriller “Sliver” was remembered by the audience with the exciting duet of Sharon Stone and William Baldwin. The actor immediately took a dislike to his on-screen lover, whom he described as unattractive and asexual. Filming sex scenes was a particular torment for her. During the kissing episode, the Basic Instinct star nearly bit off Baldwin’s tongue, leaving Baldwin unable to speak for a week. The actor limited himself to noting that the actor had “thin lips and tolerable breathing.” It is interesting that the outcome of the hostility is reflected in the game; critics gave the film seven nominations for the Golden Raspberry anti-award. Moreover, while William Baldwin was deemed worthy of the title of “most desired man” according to MTV for his role, viewers expected more from Sharon Stone, the sex symbol of the 90s.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny – The X-Files (1993)

Today, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have warm feelings for each other, but when they met, it was as if a black cat was running between them. While the audience, captivated by the play, believed in their love, the actors were waging a real war behind the scenes. Duchovny criticized Anderson for his slowness (he allegedly spent too much time playing with his hair). The actress could not come to terms with the fact that the scriptwriters made her not Mulder’s full-fledged partner, but his eternal second number. Moreover, his fee was much less than Duchovny’s. In an interview, Anderson admitted that they hated each other at first and could not talk at all for a long time.

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray – “Dirty Dancing” (1987)

The romantic musical “Dirty Dancing”, about two lovers from different social classes, convinced the audience of the reality of feelings between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray. But unfortunately! There could be no talk of any “chemistry”. The young actress was uncomfortable with her on-screen boyfriend’s perfectionism: The actor was constantly making comments to her. Swayze stated that he took Gray’s advice very seriously and confused it with barbs. As the actors had to perform complex choreographic stunts, they were both nervous and often attacked each other. Once, at his partner’s words, Gray burst into tears and avoided conflict. By the way, the actors had previously starred together in the movie “Red Dawn”, which neither of them was very happy with. But since the result was important to both of them, they gave 100%.

Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke – “Nine and a Half Weeks” (1985)

When Nine and a Half Weeks was released, audiences and the press declared Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke the most beautiful couple on the big screen. The plot of the film tells about the unbridled passion of two strangers, between whom a sadomasochistic relationship emerges. The director of the film, Adrian Lyne, deliberately argued with the actors, thinking that this would make their acting brighter, in order to convey all the emotions. And he succeeded: there was nothing but mutual disgust between the players. Kisses were especially unpleasant for Kim, since the actor always smelled of tobacco. Rourke paid her in kind and once even asked the director to find her a “more attractive partner.”

Harrison Ford and Sean Young – Blade Runner (1982)

Sean Young had gained a reputation as an “irresistible partner” long before he shot the dystopian film Blade Runner. He also couldn’t find a common language with Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford. It is unknown how the conflict began, but the players were literally ready to destroy each other. In the film, Ford and Young played a touching duet of two loving replicants, but in their free time a cold worse than nuclear winter reigned between them.

Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable – Gone with the Wind (1931)

The legendary film “Gone with the Wind” still remains the most romantic movie of all time, especially thanks to the duet between Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. And how sad it is to realize that this beautiful couple is fighting behind the scenes. If Clark Gable was immediately approved for the role of Rhett Butler, then Vivien Leigh was chosen from almost one and a half thousand applicants. For this reason, the actor was quite disdainful towards the young actress, who was also British (many were outraged that Scarlett O’Hara was not played by an American). The sophisticated Vivien Leigh also had no affectionate feelings for her partner, considering him a snob. He admitted to reporters that kissing her was unpleasant. Even so, both actors portrayed love very convincingly on the big screen.
