Mission possible: St. Petersburg and save money

Mission possible: St. Petersburg and save money

With the onset of summer, St. Petersburg becomes the main place to visit for any Muscovite. We can’t blame anyone because the city truly deserves the status of one of the most beautiful and opulent landscapes.

Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, State Hermitage, Savior on Spilled Blood. If you start listing all the goodies, even one book is not enough.

Although taxi fares in St. Petersburg are much lower than in Moscow, we are on the editorial board in favor of exploring the city by public transport. Do not rush to bend your finger at your temples, we have at least three reasons in favor of our option. We are sure that after them you will have no doubts about our method. Here we go?

Save money

For almost six months, residents and guests of the Northern capital have been using the Mir card or the United St. By paying with the St. Petersburg Card (UCP), they were able to save on trips by land transport.

For comparison: the basic bus fare is 65 rubles. You can save from 23 to 25 rubles when paying with the “plastic” EKP or coin EKP card on the phone. If you pay for trips with a Mir plastic card or a loaded national card on your smartphone, the fare will be cheaper than a one-time trip at a “guest” fare of 22 and 24 rubles. The promotion will run until the end of 2023, so hurry!

Useful advice from us: To pay for contactless trips, you must first download the card to your Android smartphone in one of the mobile payment services – Mir Pay or Samsung Pay.

By the way, residents of St. Petersburg managed to save about 40 million rubles by paying ground transportation fees with a national card and ECP since the beginning of the year. At the same time, the number of payments for trips made with a smartphone increased by 1.5 times during this time.

Don’t be surprised that we chose it as a separate item. Despite the fact that Moscow is not far from St. Petersburg, differences in mentality and attitude to life can already be seen at the Moscow railway station. The measured rhythm of the city contrasts vividly with the ever-rushing Moscow (remember the subway, at least during rush hour). Time seems frozen in the northern capital, no one is in a hurry because they understand that living in the moment is much more important. Among other things, it is on public transport where you can get a few “St. Petersburg words” to have them sell you bread in a bakery and shawarma in a cafe. It also does not hurt to remember that the front door is the entrance, otherwise you will be confused.

first person tour

Suppose you need to go from Peter and Paul Square to Kazan Cathedral. Call a taxi and take the shortest route. In road transport, you can go from point A to point B while looking at the city. Plan a route to see and understand from the inside, go to any stop along beautiful streets and squares, or stop and take a photo of a beautiful building. You can also get off the bus, trolleybus and tram and change your direction whenever you want. We think she has her own romance. You can’t see the whole Petersburg through the car window.
