Guthrie first tested positive in January during the ommicron wave, less than a week after Kotb, 57, announced he had contracted the virus.
He shared the news of his positive test in the program, which he participated in a live video stream from his home in New York, where he was in solitary confinement.
Speaking to Kotb, who returned to the studio that morning after two negative tests, Guthrie joked about the reversal of roles.
“Here we go, Hoda, we’re switching places,” he said. ‘I’m working from home, you’re back in the studio. You have a negative test for COVID, I just tested positive for COVID, here we are”.
Guthrie, who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine live on the Today Show in April 2021, added that her symptoms were very mild, adding that she was “sniffing a little” and “no more”.

When Kotb announced the diagnosis on his morning show, he said “his whole family has it”, reassuring viewers that his co-star is “well off”.

“You know how it is, everyone understands, they go into quarantine and in five days everything will be fine,” added Kotb. “I spoke to him on the phone, he’s great, he’s feeling good.”

“It’s a COVID + mom’s face,” she captioned the photo. “We’re all self-isolating and grateful for the vaccine and my loved ones.”
