Dear diary, I can’t find words to describe my joy and triumph that the end of the working week is on Wednesday instead of Friday. That’s why your humble film editor, Nastyushka Security, is contacting a news source a little earlier than usual, but as if the whole week has passed. And while I mentally dissuade myself from going on a traditional spree for the weekend (after all, we have four days ahead of us instead of two), let me remind you why we’re all here today.
Firstly, I hope and believe that you read the title of “Director” to the music in the “Director Robert B. Weide” meme, and secondly, except for jokes, here I try to collect the most. Important things from the world of cinema last week. And to do it your way of course – I hope we have a match on that.
I don’t promise to always be gentle and kind but #People say it’s my charm.
Let’s check it out?

I don’t want to brag (I want to), but I predicted that the second Avatar would be a box office success even before the premiere. Of course, that was partially obvious – after all, after 13 years of waiting, but now it’s hilarious that James Cameron is competing with himself at the top of the highest-grossing movies in history. His $2,243 billion “Way of the Water” recently swept “Titanic” at number three and is now second only to the last “Avengers” and the first “Avatar.” And given this trend, Wangyu said that by the end of the decade, all episodes of “Avatar” (and, by extension, “Titanic”) will consist of most of the dozen or so films that already have record fees. Also me and my hundred rubles on the card …

Austin Butler is confidently heading to the Oscars, and my condolences are endless. This guy has already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, so the chances of the Academy statuette finally going to Hollywood’s most lied to boy are currently increasing exponentially. Forgive me, Austin Butler fans, and with all due respect for the way he played Elvis (to be fair, he wasn’t bad), but I still wholeheartedly support Brendan Fraser or Colin Farrell. There’s a feeling the world might not have a chance to compete for the main film award anymore, but Austin Butler has it.

The film, which is already called “Fifty Shades of Grey” by the Russians. And although I did not dare to watch (the shipping was enough), my friend turned out to be more daring. I quote: Many ridiculous scenes and dialogues, for some reason, are uncomfortable for you, and not for those who have to do this in the frame. Of the other minuses: a large number of stories that were not fully disclosed until the end, the maturing Sasha Petrov and the most terrible bed scene he had ever seen in his life. A temperance club ad, nothing less.

Honestly, this series isn’t one of my favourites, like Paper House, You or The Squid Game, but it’s perfect for a long weekend. Moreover, the third season of Light Detective, about young people who are in search of treasure and constantly find themselves in dangerous situations, arrives tomorrow. And considering that most of these shows are very fond of dull shows as of season three, I will at least watch it so Outer Banks doesn’t suffer the same fate. And of course for the sake of a nice picture – I’m so picky about the visuals that I can’t even watch all the old movies in full due to the quality.

Florian Zeller’s paternity drama that I’ve been looking forward to with particular concern after “Father” with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. Firstly, I was completely satisfied with its predecessor, secondly, critics already call this role of Hugh Jackman the best of his career, and thirdly, they are not nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival either. It is a pity that “Son”, unlike “Father”, did not make it to the lists of Oscar nominees, but I strongly do not recommend watching it. By the way, the composer was Hans Zimmer, and this is another “point” of buying tickets for me at the moment (the film is officially at the Russian box office).

A biographical thriller about entrepreneur Hank Rogers, who had the idea to buy the Tetris video game created by Soviet programmer Alexei Pajitnov, will air on Apple TV+ this spring. I personally feel proud that Taron Egerton and Nikita Efremov, whom you know from Kingsman, took the lead roles in the project, the first trailer of which was released just the other day. Staring at Nikita Efremov, who spoke English for literally ten hours…

I start the uninitialized. The first trailer for the new movie of Louis Garrel, the most successful French actor of recent years, with and without rules, has arrived. At least, I put it on my personal “must see” list because he’s not only a director but also a main character here, and also because the film was named “the funniest comedy of the year” at the Cannes Film Festival. And although my life (at least personally) already seems like a circus, there is never too much laughter.

Lilo & Stitch will be made into a movie and starring Zach Galifianakis from The Hangover. And I pray that an actor doesn’t lose that hallmark of spontaneity and a healthy dose of nonsense that adds charm to any project he’s involved in. As for the full meter, there is almost no information: Dean Fleischer-Camp of Oscar-nominated Marcel the Shell with Shoes is directing the film, and Stitch will be made using computer graphics. If it will be like our “Cheburashka”, it’s already great.
