In what has become a year-end tradition, Barack Obama has revealed his favorite films of 2022. As usual for Obama, the list focuses on prestige films. A title not on the list: Avatar: the way of water.
It could be that Obama just hasn’t seen the latest news from James Cameron. It’s best seen on the big, big screen, and such showtimes get crowded, potentially posing a safety concern for the former president. Moreover, a high-quality hit is missing, Wakanda foreveralthough it is the original Black Panther made his list for 2018. A blockbuster that made it this year: Top Gun: Maverick.
Among the prestige titles that made the 2022 list is that of Steven Spielberg The FablesChinonye Chukwu To and that of Todd Field tar. Antione Fuqua is not on the list liberation. This isn’t a top 10 list – it’s a top 17 list – so there doesn’t appear to be a numerical limiting factor.
Obama actually asked for comments about films he missed.
“I’ve seen some great films this year – here are some of my favourites. What did I miss?” he wrote.
Below are all of the former president’s picks for 2022, with his list for 2021 below for comparison.
