Avalonia: Disney Christmas Starring Gay Won’t Be Released In Theaters

This year, the Disney Christmas movie will not be released in theaters. From this Friday, December 23 Avalonia, the strange journey is available to stream on Disney+.

This year, the studio’s family film will be released directly on their own streaming platform. From today, before Christmas Eve, Avalonia, the strange journey is available on Disney+.

Disney has chosen not to release his film on the big screen in France. The studio preferred to work around the media timeline systemmade for protect cinemas from platform competition. Indeed, this French law implies that the film cannot be broadcast only on streaming platforms 17 months following its theatrical release. And it’s a pity, because Avalonia, the strange journey has something to wish for and deserved its release on the big screen. This animated film immerses us in the heart of the lush ecosystem ofAvalonia, where the Clade family evolves. In this ecological fable, the grandfather is an explorer who has discovered a plant that provides a mysterious energy, while the father is a farmer. The characters will become aware of the power of Nature and the importance of antispeciesism.

In addition to its ecological dimension, if Avalonia brand a nice evolution compared to the other Disneyis that it has for protagonist Ethan, a gay boy. One of the directors, Don Hall, explains a AFP extension :

Hopefully despite his absence from the big screens, Avalonia will have less difficulty than Buzz Lightning. Released in June, the film had been censorship in fourteen countries due to a furtive kiss between a lesbian couple.
