Henry Cavill made a touching statement on his social media account that he will not be returning to the role of Superman in the DC Universe.

“I just met James Gunn and Peter Safran and I have some sad news for you all. I’m still not returning to the role of Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my transformation in October before I was hired, this news isn’t easy, but that’s life. There is a change in the nose. I respect. James and Peter must build the universe. Best of luck and best wishes to them and everyone else in the new universe.”
For those who have been by my side over the years… We may feel a little sad, but then we must remember… Superman is still here. Everything he represented is still there, and the examples he gave us are still there! It’s past my turn to put on a cape, but what Superman represents will never go away. It’s been a fun journey up and forward with all of you.”

In case you didn’t know, Henry most recently made a cameo appearance as Superman at the end of Black Adam, hinting at his return to the universe and the impending showdown between Superman and Black Adam. It happened just days before James Gunn and Peter Safran were invited as DC Films’ new directors.
