“Dance, bitch! “: Megan Thee Stallion tells court Tory Lanez shot her

Anyone directly or indirectly interested in hip-hop could not escape this dirty story of immense violence. Rapper Megan Thee StallioNot (real name Megan Pete) publicly stated, most notably on an Instagram Live on Aug. 20, 2020, that R’n’B singer Tory Lanez (Daystar Peterson) sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her feet. This she denied through her her album Day star (soon joined by his male peers as Drake in the track Circo Loco), setting off a musical, media, but above all legal battle. Since then, the respective teams of each of these two artists have tried to discredit the other.

On October 8, 2020, Tory Lanez was officially charged with the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion by Los Angeles County prosecutors. He faces up to 22 years in prison if found guilty of these three counts: assault with a semi-automatic weapon, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm for gross negligence. It is in this vein that Megan Thee Stallion testifies against Tory Lanez today.

The rapper appeared in court in Los Angeles on December 13, 2022 in the second day of the trial to find out if the singer shot her in the foot on July 12, 2020. In a purple pantsuit, the color symbol of feminism, Megan Thee Stallion testified on the witness stand, as reported The Hollywood Reporter. After explaining that she had a non-exclusive intimate relationship with him, she recounted this terrible night of July 11, 2020.

She and her best friend Kelsey Harris were at a party at Kylie Jenner’s house, where Tory Lanez joined them with her security guard Jauquan Smith. The four left in the evening in the same car. Tearfully at the courthouse bar, the rapper explains that her career explosion at the time (she had just released a remix of her hit “Savage” with Beyoncé) may have contributed to her lover feeling insecure, and at her will possibly keep silent on this matter.

She also says no one believed her side of the story in the music industry, which is why she made it public for the first time that she injured herself, stepping on broken glass. Four days after the incident, she finally told the police the truth about her, fearing the possible consequences for her as well as for him: ” I didn’t want anyone to die. I didn’t want to die. […] I can’t even be happy… I wish he would shoot and kill me. »

At the end of her testimony, Megan Thee Stallion evokes how she is now perceived as a problematic artist, and therefore on the run in the music industry. Before ending her crying that this assault made him ” lose faith, lose [s]they are friends, [s]e lose”: “Damn it, maybe I should be dead. »

Pending the rest of the trial and its verdict, Tory Lanez continues to plead not guilty.
