McDonagh worked on it Banshees even talked to Condon about the concept for years before it appeared in 2017 Three billboards. When he decided to return to the script and make it his sequel to the Oscar-nominated film, Condon knew it was quite an ambitious endeavor.
“On Three billboards, he tried to argue about what he was going to do next,” she said. “You don’t think about it, when something goes really well, it’s like, ‘Oh, now I have to follow it.’ It’s quite a difficult position. He said ‘I think I’d like to revisit the Irish script’ and of course I was very happy because I knew there was a role for me in it and because the Irish play, I thought, were so brilliant and not many people saw them.”
BOUND TOGETHER: The Banshees Of Inisherin preview: Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson reunite in Martin McDonagh drama
Her co-stars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell worked together on McDonagh’s 2008 film In Brugesmakes Condon somewhat of a newcomer—although she has previously worked with the director on other projects.

Her character, Siobhán, the sister of Pádraic (Farrell), who serves as the steadfast voice of reason as these two men reconcile at the end of their friendship. Looking back on the film’s emotional levels, Condon said, “I suppose what it evoked in me in the first place was the loneliness. I think a lot of people are really lonely, and I think it can even be with a couple being lonely. … Loneliness is somehow part of being human. But God forbid you say you’re lonely. It’s cheesy. You know what I mean? It’s so normal to do these things.”
She continued, “It’s just so nice that it sticks with you, everything. And it’s done in such a humorous way, because I think if these posts weren’t funny, it would be like, “Oh man, another tough movie to add to my tough life.”
