From Calamity Jane to Artemisia, famous or completely unknown, they are all interviewed in the comic miniseries “Histoires de femmes”, created by actress Diane Prost.

It’s not the first time actress Diane Prost has looked into the history of women. The actress is the protagonist The crazy and inconvenient story of womenstaged solo by Laura Léoni directed by Laetitia Gonzalbes where she gives life and body to the forgotten women of history.

With stories of women miniseries on Instagram, wanted to reach another audience away from the cinemas: “The fact that the show is in Paris rules out a lot. I like the camera exercise and Instagram, she replies quickly. It’s really more accessible.”explains the actress who introduces small and large historical characters, unknown to the battalion or essential, through unusual fake interviews.

Rehabilitating the women of history

The idea was born from a harsh observation:

“I realized that if someone had asked me for three names of women known in history a few years ago, I would have mentioned Marie Antoinette, Joan of Arc and Sappho…and her again, just because she is a lesbian! I realized that not having enough knowledge and I found it terrible that as a woman I could not name more than three girls in history! »

From a medieval peasant girl to World War I ammunition, she humorously and lightly displays stories that have often remained private. “Having unknown characters was very important to me. I would not have been able to know the condition of a woman in the Middle Ages. I am also thinking of Artemisia, because I would not have been able to name a painter known during the Renaissance. »

Diane Prost also takes care not to choose only smooth and flawless icons. We find, for example, the well-known figure of Calamity Jane, which she wanted to stage without forgetting to show a less brilliant part of the characterwho also participated in the genocide of Native American peoples:

“The characters, I go to the heart with a body, a voice, an accent and if it comes, I write very quickly. I love looking for characters, it’s the best exercise for me. »

They make you laugh and they make you think

Laugh to make you laughvery little for Diane Prost who always sees a part of commitment in her creations: “ I can’t make projects where there is only humor, I always need to think militantly, to have fun while talking about important things. Humor helps make people more receptive, rather than approaching things coldly and aggressively. I’m not saying it’s not a possibility when you’re an activist and it allows you to do crazy things that are successful, but for my part I prefer to do it with humor. I always will because I love him. »

Looking forward to finding it again at the Théâtre du Funambule in Paris every Tuesday until January 3 for The crazy and inconvenient story of womenDiane Prost is already developing the sequel tostories of women and hopes to find a production to work with him: “I already have ideas for season 2, like playing a woman from the 70s who was against MLF, to see another side of this story. »
