While speaking to Eddie Redmayne for the Variety series Actors On Actors, Ana de Armas revealed that she does not consider herself a legendary actress. “This shouldn’t have happened. It’s one of the roles you’re considering, but it’s not you. At least not in the movies. In the theater, sometimes you play roles that are far from what you are,” says the actress. “How does this Australian director think a Cuban woman could play Marilyn Monroe? He’s crazy,” added Ana.
The 34-year-old actress admitted that she was afraid of not being able to cope with her job. “This role was my personal challenge. An opportunity to prove to myself what I can do. And it was a big risk, because I knew that if I didn’t get it right, it would all be over,” he told the reporter.
Ana even thought of a new profession. “I will raise cows and chickens in the countryside. I will do something different. I will never work again,” the actress said.
Earlier, Ana de Armas said that she and her film crew went to Marilyn Monroe’s grave. “Each of us wrote our own appeal to Marilyn, then we went to the cemetery and put this note on her grave. In a way, we wanted to get his permission to shoot the movie. Everyone felt a great responsibility and we knew very well what side of the story we were going to tell.
