‘Dominatrix’: Trio joins cast for Season 2 of Sky and MGM+ drama series Ancient Rome

EXCLUSIVE: A new cast has been added for the second season of MGM+ and Sky’s drama Ancient Rome femdomwith David Avery (The night manager), Benjamin Isaac (Holmes and Watson) and Joelle (dune) now on board.

Set in a volatile period of Roman history, the show follows the rise of Gaius/Emperor Augustus Caesar’s third wife, Livia Drusilla, played by Kasia Smutniak. The second season will tell the struggle for control of the Roman Empire and the Imperial Family of Rome from a female perspective.

Smutniak returns for season two and regulars Matthew McNulty (Gaius Julius Caesar), Liah O’Prey (Julia), Ben Batt (Agrippa), Ewan Horrocks (Drusus), Claire Forlani (Octavia), Darrell D’Silva (Piso) back. , Christine Bottomley (Scribonia) and Alais Lawson (Marcella).

New series star Avery plays Domitius, an ambitious young aristocrat who marries into Gaius’s family and proves to be a thorn in her side as Livia. Joelle plays Vipsania, who refuses to play the conventional power games expected of Roman noble life. Happily married to an outsider, Livia’s son Tiberius, she is a driving force for the good in his life.

Tiberius was remade with Isaac in the role. In season two, he becomes increasingly reluctant to fulfill his mother’s ambition that he and his brother must restore the Republic.

Production recently completed at Rome’s historic Cinecittà Studios and is set to premiere on MGM+, which will replace the Epix brand in the New Year, and across Europe on Sky in 2023. The show is produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, owned by Banijay UK, in association with MGM+ Studios, with Banijay Rights as distributor.

It was written by Simon Burke (Bravery, fight back), who executive produced alongside Tiger Aspect Head of Drama Lucy Bedford Carmel Maloney and Muirinn Lane Kelly, who recently passed away at the age of 50.

Avery is represented by Curtis Brown and Luber Roklin, and Joelle and Isaac are represented by United Agents.
