Like every year since 1999, the company is famous for its color charts used by designers from all over the world, sensing the trend and defining what the future will do. Interior designers, stylists and the like are closely following these predictions which speak volumes about the state of the world. Thus, after Very Peri, a sort of violet-blue which was elected color of the year 2022, it is the turn of Pantone 18-1750 Long Live Magenta to be announced for 2023.
The company specializing in color thus specifies through a public press release:
“Vibrant with dynamism and vigor, a shade rooted in the nature of the red family that displays a new signal of strength. Drawing on the experimental spirit of Viva Magenta, Pantone explores the dynamic between artificial intelligence and human creativity to create “the Magentaverse”.
[…] A nuanced crimson red tone that strikes a balance between warm and cool, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta is also a hybrid color, comfortably straddling the physical and the virtual, evocative of our multidimensional world. Assertive but not aggressive, this is a carmine red that isn’t overwhelmingly dominant, but rather takes an “knuckle fist in velvet glove” approach. Exuding dynamism, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta is a transformative shade of red that can guide design towards a more positive future. »

One can also assume that this color is part of a form of continuity with the “shocking” pink à la Elsa Schiaparelli, now massively repopularized by Valentino (his all-pink collection for autumn-winter 2022-2023 marked the collective retina and convinced several celebrities for their red carpet appearances such as Florence Pugh), and right in the pink Barbie trend. This aesthetic dubbed #barbiecore on TikTok and others was even designated the most influential of the year 2022 by e-commerce megasite Lyst, so good at collecting data on its 200 million users. The Viva Magenta for 2023 therefore appears as an even more vibrant, supernatural, almost more virtual version of this pink so present in 2022.
It remains to be seen whether it will be easy to adopt on a daily basis, whether to spice up your interior decoration, your office supplies or even to dress, make up or color your hair. Whether it’s from head to toe or just a touch, this shade is sure to spice up any look. Finally, we recall that what Pantone announced is aimed more at professionals than individuals who will do what they want with this indicative information, but always interesting to underline.
In short, if the Mean Girls wore pink every Wednesday in 2004 (the year in which the teen movies cult Lolita in spite of me), maybe they will wear Viva Magenta every day in 2023.
