We cannot repeat this enough, when it comes to domestic violence there is no typical profile. No matter the socio-professional level, no matter the age. This is what the Opinion Way survey institute recalls, in a study carried out for La Maison des femmes and Causette magazine, published this Friday 25 November.
The survey entitled “The French and education in sexual and emotional life to combat violence »it was conducted on a representative sample of the French population of 2,025 people aged 18 or over. When asked “do you ever wonder if you are not experiencing physical, psychological or sexual violence in your relationship”, 18% answered yes. Of these, 35% are young women under the age of 35.
Young women at the forefront of domestic violence
These figures are published when November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. On this occasion, France News it also brought to light studies on the unsuspected number of adolescents and young women victims of domestic violence. As demonstrated by the report “Living environment and safety”, published by the Ministry of the Interior in 2019 among women who reported experiencing violence by their spouse or ex-spouse, 29% were between the ages of 18 and 29 in the period 2011-2018. A significant proportion, but a difficult age group to reach, because often these young women do not ask for help.
11% of calls to 3919 are from 18-25 year olds
As proof, only 11% of calls to 3919, the emergency number for women victims of violence, came from 18-25 year olds.according to a study by the Hubertine Auclert Center in 2016. Fear of not being believed, a distorted view of domestic violence and romantic relationships… so many factors that should encourage us to increase the education of young people about what defines sexual life and healthy emotional.
