EXCLUSIVE: home of the dragon Star Emma D’Arcy is stepping down from the thriller ann about intrepid Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya due to a scheduling conflict, replaced by Naomi Battrick (That postcard murders).
D’Arcy, who started out as the older princess Rhaenyra Targaryen game of thrones forerunner home of the dragonwould star Politkovskaya’s daughter Vera Politkovskaya in the Cannes Market package alongside two-time BAFTA nominee Maxine Peake (black mirror) as lead actor and is directed by of Broadchurch James Strong from a screenplay by Eric Poppen.
Deadline understands that Battrick replaced D’Arcy in the previously untitled film a few weeks ago mother Russian, with D’Arcy out due to a scheduling conflict. Battrick’s previous work includes Danis Tanovic’s thriller Cush Jumbo the postcard murders, in which she played Marina Haysmith. She also ran Sky’s Jamestown and appeared in BBC drama A very English scandal.
With Ciaran Hinds (belfast)Jason Isaacs, Harry Lawtey (industry) and Ellie Bamber (willow), Ann tells the story of the world-renowned journalist and human rights activist who rose from a local print journalist to fight the Chechen battlefields and expose Russian state corruption under Vladimir Putin. Despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence, she refused to stop covering the war in Chechnya and was eventually murdered in the elevator of her apartment building.
Isaacs plays Politkovskaya’s husband Sacha, Hinds is Nobel Prize-winning newspaper editor Dmitry Muratov, Bamber is intern/protégé Elena, and Lawtey plays Anna’s son Ilya.
Filming started a few weeks ago in the UK and Latvia. The image was created by Miriam Segal and Paul Brennan of Good Films Collective (The intruder) with Luminosity Entertainment providing financing and overseeing worldwide distribution.
Battrick is repped by Curtis Brown and Magnolia Entertainment.
