She breastfeeds in the library, they ask her to do it somewhere else

Welcome to 2022, where mothers still have to hide to feed their babies. This time it was a woman from Nice who was invited to isolate herself so as not to “shock” the children present.

A woman who was breastfeeding in public space was asked to self-isolate. No, this is not a rebroadcast of an article published last month, or the previous one, but a new incident that happened last week. The context changes a bit, the scene this time taking place in a library, but rest assured, the concerned mother has heard exactly the same thing as her classmates before her: her breasts could shock the little one.

Asked to hide to nurse in library

Diane Pico, mother of a 5-year-old boy and a 10-month-old boy, recounted her ordeal in a video on Facebook:

As she recounts, while she was in the library with her little ones, the baby started crying. So she decided to breastfeed him.

Does this scene seem totally uninteresting to you? It’s because it is. And that it should have stayed that way. This without counting the intervention of the librarian of the institution who asked him to isolate himself, under the pretext that this exposed breast could shock the young public.

If the incident sounds familiar to you, that’s normal. The Louvre Museum and Disneyland Paris recently stood out in similar events asking nursing visitors to isolate themselves. These two cases were particularly publicized and followed by apologies and calls to order from the establishments concerned.

However, breastfeeding women are still the subject of inappropriate thoughts, as deplored by the awareness campaign launched by Tajine Banane launched on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week.

Did you know that a child has to eat to survive?

World Breastfeeding Week, awareness campaigns, initiatives abroad, #allaiterpartouttoutletemps, voices are raised to democratize breastfeeding in public places. These actions have the merit of allowing nursing mothers to realize that the problem does not come from them, but from a society that sexualizes their breasts. From there to convincing even said company that it no longer has a say in the matter, there is still a long way to go.

Remember that science is unanimous on the matter: to survive, a child must be fed. Unfortunately for his parents, and often for his mother, there is currently no diet considered suitable. He recalls that mothers who choose the bottle are accused of being selfish. And that those who breastfeed are exhibitionists who deserve slaps.

In the meantime, let’s not get trampled on the boobs or pacifiers and set a good example by letting the girlfriends do as they want and where they want.
