Thanks to this new saliva pregnancy test, you will never pee on your fingers again

What do pregnancy and Covid have in common? Both are now detectable in saliva! The Israeli medical start-up Salignostics is preparing to commercialize the first pregnancy test with saliva. Good news for those who can’t aim properly and are tired of pissing on their fingers every time a ruler is late.

A soon-to-be-marketed saliva pregnancy test

The medical startup Salignostics, which specializes in saliva tests, is preparing to commercialize its first pregnancy test. This test detects the pregnancy hormone Beta HCG present in saliva. The result appears after 15 minutes and is 98% reliable from the first day of missed periods. The device has already received the CE marking and could be marketed in France from the beginning of 2023, although its sale price is not yet known.

Saliva allows for rapid diagnosis (…) in particular because it is the only simple and non-invasive way to detect hormones, viruses and diseases. For Stalistik, we leveraged our knowledge of saliva diagnosis (…) to avoid using urine or blood to detect pregnancy.

How do you know if you are pregnant today?

Currently, there are only two reliable ways to confirm pregnancy (put down that pack of rock salt now):

• Urine tests: These tests can detect the pregnancy hormone present in the urine. Depending on the brand, they can be done up to a week before your expected period. However, the result is estimated to be 98 to 99% reliable from the first day of missed periods.
• The laboratory blood test: 100% reliable, it is recommended for all women to detect or confirm pregnancy and monitor its evolution by detecting the level of Beta HCG hormones present in the blood. At present, no internal tests allow us to know this rate precisely.
