Members of the WGA East, who work at the news and talk show network 1010 WINS in New York City, voted overwhelmingly to sign a new three-year contract. The vote was 29-1 in favor of accepting the agreement, which includes a minimum wage increase of 3% in the first year and 2.25% in the second and third years.
“This contract is a very good deal for our members,” the union’s bargaining committee said in a statement. “We made pay increases for all service staff, writers and editors, backdated to July when our old contract expired, and even bigger pay increases for news production assistants. We also won additional paid vacation time for employees and freelancers. We received commitments from management to discuss certain other issues on which we disagreed. Overall, the agreement is fair and we hope to work with management to move forward on the issues we disagreed on.”
According to the Guild, other contract highlights include:
- News production assistants receive up to a 5.3% increase in their weekly salary depending on their seniority.
- Non-employees receive one company day per year.
- Employees receive an additional driving holiday.
- The parties agreed to meet to discuss risk balancing.
- The company may provide commuting allowances for night shifts, sixth and seventh days of the work week, inclement weather or communication emergencies.
- No minimum call for upgraded services.
- The parties will meet and discuss the meal penalties when WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS articles are combined.
In September, WCBS, WBBM and KNX guild members unanimously ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with Audacy, which is also the parent company of WINS.
