Do you recognize and like the ‘baguette’ bag? In oblong, rectangular, square or even semicircle or crescent shape, with a rather short handle to wear over the shoulder, this type of bag has quickly become one of our favorite models. It triumphs in the street style, it is the model that is always present in the collections of the most important fashion companies around the world and we do not continue to see it everywhere, because it is an absolute trend.
Fendi created it in 1997 (an obvious reference to the famous baguette, which is usually worn in the same way) and later the most iconic and highly fashionable characters such as Carrie Bradshaw and Rachel Green were responsible for making it popular in Sex and the City and Friends, respectively. For a few seasons, the ‘baguette’ has been the it-bag par excellence, after a golden age in the early 2000s. We already know that everything will eventually come back into fashion…
These days, it’s very, very hard to find a single haute couture brand that doesn’t have a baguette bag in its collections—do you love Louis Vuitton’s Pochette or Gucci’s Jackie?—but the best of everything is that the mass stores -with more affordable prices for everyone, such as Zara, Pull & Bear, H&M or Bershka- have them too. The ‘baguette’ is a perfect bag to take with you on a daily basis as it weighs very little and is very comfortable to wear, slung over the shoulder and tucked under the arm.
