For this early autumn we have selected a small series of children’s albums, tested and approved by the editorial staff, and by their children.
In the big heart of Anouk, from 4 years old
Mathou, the talented author and illustrator we adore at Madmoizelle, releases her first children’s album, with editions by Robert Lafffont. In the heavy heart of Anouk, we discover the life of a little girl in her sneakers, loved by her parents, her grandmother, her friends, who one day receives a grossophobic reflection from a school friend.
A soft and colorful album, which speaks of self-acceptance and tolerance towards others, of difference and its richness. A nice nugget that feels good!
The opinion of our little 5 and a half year old reader: ” This Jules sucks, but if he had told me, I would have given him a chance. hide, Bagstruggle. “

To make you love you in a big way, from 5 years old
Written by Capucine Lewalle and illustrated by Julia Spiers, all published by Casterman editions, To love you big is a poetic album, which supports self-love and acceptance. Delivered in the form of a secret from parent to child, the words are sweet, the message is strong, the designs warm. The child learns there that his strength is the love he has for himself, his benevolence and tolerance towards his body, towards his talents, and encourages him to feel good in his pumps, without pressures. A nice crush.
Our 6 year old reader’s opinion: ” I liked it, because sometimes I also make shriveled letters and I don’t like to spoil my drawings “

The patient child, starting from 4 years
This philosophical beauty, written by Alexandre Saltie, illustrated by Malijo and published by Maison Eliza editions, is a nugget of poetry. The story is moving: it is that of a little boy who plants a seed in the ground with his father in the hope of seeing a tree grow that bears good fruit, and who waits, waits, waits for the germ of the seed. Tired, he continues his life, works, has a family and time flies. Very quickly, yet so long after, he becomes an old person and, weary, sits under a tree in his childhood garden. And there, among the leaves, he sees a beautiful fruit. Yes yes, it’s chialade.
Our 6 year old reader’s opinion: ” I would never have the patience to see a tree grow! “

Bamboléo’s time, from 3 years old
Written by Clémence Sablagh, illustrated by Mylène Rigaudie and published by Casterman, Bamboleo’s time it is a hymn to friendship and difference. When a snail, who likes to climb trees to see the world from above, meets a rabbit that makes him discover the world at full speed, a beautiful friendship is born between the two little creatures. It is very soft, it is cute and it warms the heart, even making you laugh.
The opinion of our little 3 year old reader: ” The snail is too funny with its belly making noise “

An extraordinary garden, from 7 years old
An extraordinary garden, is the promise of an immersion in nature for the little ones, to discover flowers, vegetables, birds and insects. Written by Isabelle Rimasson and drawn by the talented Simon Hureau, all published by Motus editions, this album is a graphic beauty and a true openness to nature, underlining the importance of transmission and sharing. When young Nino finds himself stuck at his grandmother’s house, without a console, without a telephone and without the internet, he is not one of the happiest. But once he is completely immersed in his grandmother’s beautiful garden, another world opens up to him and he emerges grown out of it.
The opinion of our little 6 year old reader: ” One day I too will have a large garden with bees and tomatoes, and we will also be able to sleep at night under the stars “.

Animal or vegetable? For 2 years
This illustrated book of nature by Delachaux and Niestlé is very useful for the little ones, to help them make the difference between what is vegetable or what is animal. Carrots, bees, crabs, seagulls, algae and branches, there are many examples and scenarios through pretty photos, all printed on a support sturdy enough to be grasped and chewed by the little ones. An excellent first approach to biodiversity, nature and the living.
Our 20 month reader’s opinion: – tries to munch on a piece of the book before frantically drooling over it.

A child is a child, quite simply, starting from the age of 5
Illustrated by Qui Leng and written by Sara O’Leary, the Canadian album released by Les Arènes Jeunesse is a hymn to tolerance and acceptance of difference. An immersion with children in a playground, who would like to accept themselves for who they are, without being judged by their size, their hair length, their gender or their lifestyle. Because what these kids want is just to be kids, to play and have fun. A little sweetness in this world of brutes is very good.
The opinion of our little 6 year old reader: “I love the drawings, it’s so well done! “

Funny things, from 6 years old
Last of this selection, but not least, funny things it is a poetic nugget. Written by François David, illustrated by Sylvie Serprix and published by Motus editions, this children’s book gives voice to all our everyday objects with tenderness, color and humor.
Stuffed with puns, we can read and see the daily life of scissors that don’t cut the floor, tires that roll mechanics or even pencils that look good. The drawings are beautiful, soft and beautiful, and the text takes us on a journey of poetry that is very good for children and their parents. A nugget!
The opinion of our little 5 and a half year old reader: “I need to find other items to talk about, like the feather-light pillow”
