Musician Andrey Makarevich*, humorist Mikhail Shats* and political scientist Valery Solovey* sued the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation. They dispute the legality of including their names on the list of foreign agents.

The plaintiffs believe that there is no legal basis for their inclusion in the register and that this decision violates their rights and freedoms and is contrary to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

The interests of all three are represented by attorney Alexander Peredruk. In an interview with News.ru, he rated his clients’ chances of winning the case as high.

Andrei Makarevich* commented on the news to the same publication, saying that he did not consider himself “any foreign agent” but wanted to appeal the Justice Department’s decision because he was “just disgusted”.

The leader of the “Time Machine” group was included in the list of individuals-foreign agents in early September. Even before the special operation began, he opposed the actions of the Russian government and criticized the Kremlin’s support for refugees from Donbass. Subsequently, Makarevich * repeatedly spoke out against the special operation, calling those who supported him “puppets”.

In July, a list of “unwanted artists” was released, allegedly distributed to music promoters. Among other things, it contained the name of the group “Time Machine”. Soon Andrei Makarevich* confirmed that the concert organizers refused to cooperate with the group, several scheduled performances of the group in Russian cities were canceled. The leader of the Time Machine lives in Israel.

Mikhail Shats* and Valery Solovey* were also included in the list of media outlets as foreign agents in the fall.
