For this 16th episode, we will visit Charline’s superb apartment!

In Charline’s apartment

In the apartment of … Charline: “I have a coffee machine that cost me 500 euros”
  • What is your name and your age?

My name is Charline, I am 29 years old and I have a lot of white hair!

  • What do you do for a living ?

I am the room manager of a starred restaurant in Turin, Italy. I’ve lived there for about ten years.

  • What is the pedigree of your apartment? (location, how many square meters, monthly fee or purchase price)

It is a 5-minute walk from the center of Turin, so I avoid the hustle and bustle of the city center by having everything very easily at hand and without having to take public transport or the car.

My apartment is not very big, it must measure more or less fifty square meters, but having a mezzanine I gain a lot of space and it almost feels like living in a mini-loft. I am renting and the rent is 400 euros per month.

  • You live alone?

No, I live with my future husband (he lived there alone before I joined him a year ago) and my two cats (who have decided to fit in some photos).

  • If you had to give a word or phrase to describe your accommodation, what would it be?

Amazing.

  • If you were to interview your apartment, what would be its positive and negative aspects?

The good points : without hesitation its position, its coolness in summer and its mezzanine.

The negative points: always without hesitation, darkness and humidity, because it is on the ground floor. Ah, and some neighbors a little too “doorman” for our tastes.

Can you show us one (or more) objects that we can only find at home? An object found, manufactured, inherited …

Thanks to my partner, you can find his first surfboard hanging on the wall and a fixed gear bike his brother built for him from A to Z.

We also have an original Pulp Fiction movie poster which is just huge. It might be fun on the day we move out. Our coffee table is an old wooden and iron trunk found on the street and restored by our father.

  • Do you have a decoration idea, not too expensive or even DIY that you are too proud of and want to share?

As you may have noticed, we really like to hang frames, movie posters, paintings on the walls. One Sunday, when we were bored, we collected reproductions of Alphonse Mucha’s works (every year my mother gives me her calendar and I keep them preciously in a corner) and made a collage that now sits above our bed. Simple, fun and inexpensive.

Otherwise we built a small library in the living room niche: we just didn’t know what to do with it and I had no place to put my books. We recovered some wooden planks, bought some screws and borrowed a drill and voila. My big cat decided he was comfortable there and I had to put the basket under him.

  • IS that you had a big cracked wallet for something in your house?

Yes, our coffee machine. We love coffee and we drink it in astronomical quantities and for his birthday I gave him an electric grinder.

It was a bit of a waste of the quality of the beans we bought to continue making our coffee in the Italian moka, so we decided to buy a semi-professional machine for 500 euros. Suffice it to say that we take care of it.

  • What are your decorative quirks?

I love owls, have been watching them for years. You will find them everywhere in our area. On the other hand, a mania that I have developed over time, also from a decorative point of view, is that of having nothing that arouses the curiosity of my cats a little too much.

  • Where do you feel most at home?

On the sofa, watching a good movie.

  • What is the music that plays most often in your home?

Rock, a little rock and a lot of rock.

  • Do you have work or decoration projects?

For now, we are trying to put an end to hanging pictures / frames on the walls. For the rest, I think we have reached a point where the apartment looks like us and we like it. It is no longer my partner’s apartment and therefore only his style, but in the end also a little of mine. A good mix, I’d say.

Charlie_13
  • Do you follow Instagram accounts for decoration inspiration?

No.

  • How long do you see yourself living in your home?

We plan to move next year to become owners. We have a big plan to go to Tuscany to open an inn (bed & breakfast style rooms for rent + our restaurant + our house).

It is our life project, so to speak, and therefore we hope that it will be realized as soon as possible.
