Prince William and Kate Middleton warned not to travel to Northern Ireland: ‘Ireland belongs to the Irish’
Kate Middleton and Prince William
The Prince and Princess of Wales William and Kate Middleton visited Northern Ireland as part of their country tour. The couple thanked the Irish for welcoming them on social media.
However, not without an unpleasant incident. While Kate Middleton was talking to Belfast residents, one of the women shook her hand and said:
As you know, relations between Great Britain and Ireland, which are fighting for their independence, including through terrorist methods, have been strained for decades. Unlike the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, but even today there are those who oppose it.
But the Princess of Wales kept her composure and continued to smile at the residents. A video of the incident went viral on social media, with many netizens siding with the Princess of Wales, stating that she “handled the embarrassing situation beautifully”.
The royal family then spoke to local schoolchildren who came to greet them, visited a local charity and met with Noel Williams, the Mayor of Central and East Antrim.
