If you’ve already written the contouring, it’s too early. Rihanna’s makeup artist Priscilla Ono thinks sculpting is more natural and softer now, but it’s definitely not in the past. She most recently spoke to British Glamor magazine about a styling technique that takes less than a minute.
Here are the main steps:
- First, the make-up artist heats the sculpting stick on the back of his hand to make the product work.
- Then she draws along the cheekbones and chin, and sometimes puts a little on the temples to narrow her face.
- The next step is shading. For this, Priscilla likes to use a sponge instead of a brush. It saves time, he says.

If you want to make your face more defined, use the pointed end of the sponge and apply foundation under the original sculpture to make your cheekbones and jawline more defined. Makeup artists call this technique “reverse contouring.”
