The counter-investigation of a successful podcast
The facts dated back to February 1999, when Hae Min Lee’s lifeless body was found in a wood in Baltimore. A year later, her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was sentenced to life sentence. So aged 17 yearsthe teenager firmly proclaimed his innocence and called himself a victim of Islamophobia.
In 2014 the journalists of the podcast Serial took charge of the case and led to counter-investigation in 12 episodes. According to The Parisian, Serial was heard 300 million times around the world and was made into an HBO documentary. Their investigation revealed numerous negligence in handling the case, most notably the testimony of a young girl offering him a potential alibi.

the New York Times revealed that this Monday, September 19, Adnan Syed was released for the first time since his incarceration as a teenager. The elements proposed by the podcast would have led Baltimore District Attorney, Marilyn Mosby, to ask the annulment of his conviction.
A DNA analysis will allow to establish within the next thirty days whether the charges against the accused will be abandoned or if a new trial will be organized. Until then, Adnan Syed is being held at home and wearing an electronic bracelet.
