Actor Shia LaBeouf spoke with Bishop Robert Barron about a “dark period in his life” about suicidal thoughts and how he came to religion in a new episode of the Bishop Barron Presents podcast.

The actor, who is of Jewish descent (his mother is Jewish) and, according to him, underwent the Jewish initiation ceremony “Bar Mitzvah” in his youth, said that he converted to Catholicism while working on the painting “Padre Pio”. . He played the main role in this film – an Italian monk, and while preparing for the role, he lived in a monastery and was baptized.

He stated that he met people who “sinned in ways he couldn’t even imagine” and found salvation in the church. This made him think there was a way out too.

LaBeouf admitted it was a dark time for him: the actor even struggled with suicidal thoughts.

This all happened after his ex-girlfriend, singer FKA Twigs, accused him of abusive behavior and psychological abuse. Later, the actress was removed from the filming of Olivia Wilde’s movie Don’t Worry, Sunshine. Soon after, Shia LaBeouf went to treatment, explaining that she needed professional help. She has suspended her relationship with the acting agency CAA and said she will “focus on her full recovery and get the help she needs”.

He noted that shooting in the movie “Padre Pio” contributed to his conversion to religion.

Soon, the actor will be put on trial with a former lover: the court will consider FKA Twigs’ charges against LaBeouf in April 2023. It is possible that his other ex-girlfriend, Margaret Qualley, was also present at the trial, who could act as a witness.
