It is a personal and historic feat that took place on the evening of Sunday 21 August 2022 in Ohio, in the United States. Tennis player Caroline Garcia just won the Cincinnati tournament.

1st player from qualification to win a WTA 1000
35th in the world, the 28-year-old Frenchman won against the Czech Petra Kvitova (28th in the world), 6-2, 6-4. It is her third win in a WTA 1000 tournament and the tenth title of her career. She is also her most important title since 2017, when she triumphed in China.

This is the first time a qualifier player has been able to lead such a featwithin a WTA 1000 competition (category of women’s tennis tournaments played on the Women’s Tennis Association circuit, which by prestige are behind the Grand Slam tournaments and ahead of those of the WTA 500).

What else does Caroline Garcia have in store for us for the US Open from 29 August to 11 September 2022?
