Let it be said, getting curls is long-term work which requires several very concrete things: a good pair of arms, a high performance curling iron and time… A lot of time, especially if you have thick hair like me.
Many, therefore, are those who seek solutions to save precious minutes by achieving a similar result than when using heated tools. And if the braids (to leave on all night) do not solve you, another technique appeared some time ago on social networks and seems to show much more satisfying results!
The idea? Use the belt of a bathrobe or even a piece of silk (if it’s satin, that’s enough too) to give your hair “the right turn” and thus obtain relatively regular waves.

The technique in detail
To understand exactly how this technique works, Jason Lee, award-winning hairdresser and owner of the Jason Lee Salon in Toronto, explained to Fashion magazine the basics to see more clearly:
“All of these techniques require a little bit of moisture to get started, so the hair is fixed overnight. If you try one of these techniques on dry hair, you run the risk of nothing happening. “
Ok but how to get an optimal result which lasts all day ? Here you are our tutorial inspired by the video of Youtuber Elanna Pecherle.
- Once your hair is moistened and well untangled, arm yourself with the belt of your bathrobe or a silk sausage and place it towards the center of the head. Hold it with pliers.
- Use some styling spray on the lengths so that the hair takes the right curve.
- Choose a small wick (the front one to start) e wrap it around your pudding. Once the wick has passed underneath, hold it steady and select another wick on the front of the face. The goal is to continue this gesture until all of your hair is caught in the sausage. Secure everything with a rubber band and repeat the same method on the other side of the head.
- Leave the hairstyle on for several hours (minimum two hours and you can go up to eight hours, for example by sleeping with it). Then, she unrolls her hair gently, respecting its movement.
- Once you have nice curls, remember to loosen them slightly using a wide-toothed comb and apply some hairspray so that everything stays in place all day!
Jason Lee, who also reported that this method works best on rather fine hair, says:
“This technique works for the size and diameter of the waistband of the silk robe or sausage; this will create a softer wave.
For those with naturally curly hair, this can actually lengthen your curl. If you try this technique, don’t be afraid to run a finishing product with your fingers to soften sections afterwards, and don’t forget to use a little texturizing spray to create an effortless look. “
Now that you know how to do it, it’s up to you and to get off to a great start, we have selected for you the best silk or satin tools that do their job perfectly!
