First lady Jill Biden tested positive for Covid-19, just a week after her husband, President Joe Biden, returned to public events after contracting the virus.
Elizabeth Alexander, the first lady’s communications director, said: “After testing negative for COVID-19 on Monday, the first lady began developing cold-like symptoms late at night during routine testing. antigen was again negative, but the PCR test was positive.
Alexander said the first lady has been prescribed a course of Paxlovide and has “only mild symptoms”. He said Biden will be isolated from others for at least five days and close contacts will be notified.
President Joe Biden tested positive last month and recovered from the virus after treatment with paxloide.
The Bidens went on vacation to the island of Kiawah. As of last week, the president is expected to return to the White House on Tuesday to sign the anti-inflation bill and then return home to Wilmington later that day.
The president tested negative on August 7, about two weeks after the first positive test. He was also isolated and started returning to his public show after about six days. But he tested positive again on July 30 and returned to solitary confinement a week later.
