Johnny Depp returns to the cinema as a director: for the first time in 25 years, he has announced his intention to make a movie. The actor will work on a biographical drama about the famous Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani. This was reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Modigliani movie will be an adaptation of Dennis McIntyre’s play of the same name and will show the two decisive days of Modigliani’s career. The action of the painting will take place in Paris in 1916. Al Pacino and Barry Navidi will produce the film. It is not yet known whether Johnny Depp will appear in the movie as an actor. Filming will begin next spring in Europe.

This will be Johnny Depp’s second directorial effort: in 1997 he shot the western movie “The Brave”. The main roles in the movie were played by Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp’s directorial work will be an attempt to restart his career after a scandalous lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard: due to allegations of violence, the actor lost all projects. At the end of May, the court found the actress guilty of libel and ordered her to pay compensation to her ex-husband.

Previously, it was also known that Johnny Depp starred in the movie “Favorite” directed by Maywenn Le Besco. He plays the king role in the drama about the life of Jeanne Dubarry, the last mistress of Louis XV. The movie will be on screens next year.
