Darren Throop will step down as eOne President and CEO at the end of the year.
Hasbro, which bought eOne for $ 4 billion in 2019, announced its departure this morning, indicating it will implement a full transition plan before Throop’s departure is finalized.
“Darren has built a team of deep passion, creativity and talent, and on behalf of all of us at Hasbro, I thank him for his steadfast leadership,” said Chris Cox, CEO of Hasbro. “Entertainment remains the cornerstone of our strategy. With over 200 projects in development across film, unscripted and unscripted television, the eOne team is working on over 35 development projects for Hasbro brands. … Darren’s vision and legacy will be felt for years to come and we wish him all the best for his next chapter. “
Hasbro’s property list includes Transformers, Magic, D&D, Peppa Pig, My Little Pony, Power Rangers, and Play-Doh.
Throop was also elected chairman of Imax’s board of directors last year. His more than three decades in show business began when he founded an independent music store in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It expanded to become a larger chain in Canada and, after several incarnations, was renamed EntertainmentOne. From its origins in music, eOne has extended to film and television. During the construction of its original properties, eOne has become a force in international distribution, the processing shows how Living Dead for AMC until 2019.
