The 64th Grammy Awards took place last night in Las Vegas. Spletnik talks about who received the awards and what the ceremony remembers for this year.

The duet Silk Sonic won awards in four categories, including song of the year – Leave The Door Open was recognized as the best composition.

American musician and composer John Baptiste received the Album of the Year award, while singer Olivia Rodrigo was named Best New Artist. He also received an award in the “Best Solo Performance” nomination for his composition Driver’s License and received a statuette for his debut album Sour.

Foo Fighters received awards in three categories at once – they were noted for best rock performance, rock song, and rock album.
Kanye West won Best Melodic Rap Performance for Hurricane and Best Rap Song for Jail.
Highlights of the award
This year’s Grammy Awards have a new set of rules – unlike previous ceremonies, winners in this year’s most prestigious categories are chosen by members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Previously, artists in these categories were selected by “secret” committees of 15 to 30 industry representatives. They have been running since 1989, but last year they decided to cancel them.
Not all viewers were satisfied with the choice of winners. The ceremony was traditionally performed by the Korean group BTS. His performance was one of the brightest, but the team did not receive the coveted award. This angered fans very much – on social networks BTS fans accused the organizers of inviting the group every year for the sake of ratings, but did not reward it.

Billie Eilish dedicated her performance to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away at the end of March. The singer entered the stage in a T-shirt with his portrait.

Kanye West did not attend the Grammys this year, despite receiving two awards. Organizers banned her from performing at this year’s awards due to “controversial behavior on the network.” This was due to racially motivated insults against the host of the Trevor Noah award, which the rapper allowed himself on Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation).
After failing to win any of the five awards, rapper Lil Nas found a way to stand out. Netizens criticized the musician’s provocative performance, in which he made obscene gestures with the microphone. The audience agreed that at an event of such a level as the Grammys, such behavior on stage was unacceptable.
Lil Nas X
Not without mentioning the conflict in Ukraine. The Grammy ceremony also included a video message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urging viewers to support Ukraine.

After Zelensky’s speech, musician John Legend and Ukrainian poet Lyubov Yakymchuk sang a song dedicated to Ukraine.
